THE ROLE OF PROJECT INFORMATION CENTRE
  • PIC is the centralized point of access for individuals with physical disabilities applying for Attendant Services in Toronto area. With a single application, applicants can apply through PIC to a variety of projects and programs listed in the PIC Directory.
  • PIC does not provide Attendant Services.  PIC receives and assesses applications for basic eligibility and forwards these applications to Attendant Service Providers.  PIC is responsible for the maintenance of all eligible applications.
  • Application updates are also completed through PIC.  These updates include any changes on the application such as address, project selection or preference, service needs, etc.

OTHER SERVICES PROVIDED BY PIC

  • PIC maintains information about Attendant Service options across the province of Ontario and provides information and referral regarding Attendant Services.
  • PIC maintains an Ontario Attendant Service Directory which is an Online Directory of Attendant Service Providers located throughout Ontario.
  • PIC also maintains a Consumer Attendant Roster (CAR) which is a web-based system helping to match job seeking attendants with consumer job openings for attendants.

APPLICATION PROCESS

What happens after I submit my application to PIC?
  • Your application is assessed for basic eligibility requirements, is entered on our central database and will be forwarded to the service providers that you selected.
  • You will receive an acknowledgment letter and an Applicant Profile, verifying the Attendant Service Providers that you have applied to.
  • The Attendant Service Providers will review your application for their own eligibility requirements and you may be contacted and/or an assessment interview may be required.

When should I call PIC?

  • To get information. To ask questions about different kinds of Attendant Services.
  • To change your address/telephone number or to add or remove projects.
  • To update you application if your needs have changed significantly.
  • To tell us if you have been accepted for services.
  • To close your application.
When should I call attendant service providers?
  • To find out specific information regarding individual Attendant Service projects or programs.
  • To return a call to the service providers.
  • To confirm or change an appointment with the service providers.
A Note to social workers, occupational therapists, discharge planners or those assisting applicants to apply through PIC:
  • Attendant Services are designed to meet the needs of adults with physical disabilities. While there are no upper age limits for applicants, the organizations listed in the PIC directory specialize in providing a service and not in providing “care” or “supervision”.
  • Please pay particular attention to the eligibility criteria and to the concept of self-direction of services prior to submitting an application to PIC.
  • Please ensure that the applicant maintains a copy of their application and the PIC directory – they will require it in the future.
