Looking for People who use Attendant Services and Attendants who Provide Services to People with Disabilities for Survey

The Sexuality and Access Project is looking for attendants to participate in an anonymous survey which is part of a larger project which includes looking at issues related to workplace safety, training needs, and areas of support for attendants around the issue of healthy sexual expression for people you are providing services to.

The Sexuality and Access Project is funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation. The goal of the project is to give Ontarians with disabilities greater control over their lives by providing them and their personal service attendants with the skills and knowledge to protect and develop their sexual health and safety.

If you provide attendant services or know anyone who does, please consider taking our survey and sharing it with your co-workers.  You may take the survey online by clicking here.

If you don’t have access to the Internet and would like to participate in a phone survey please contact Fran Odette at the information below.

There is also a survey for people with disabilities who use attendant services. If you would be interested in completing the survey, click here.

To learn more about the project or to receive a version of the online survey in alternate format contact:

Fran Odette, Project Coordinator at 416-968-3422 Ext. 30 or at f.odette@gmail.com

The Accessible Customer Service Standard

As of January 1, 2010, Ontario’s hospitals, schools, municipalities and other public organizations are now required to provide service that is accessible to everyone. The private sector and non-profit organizations will follow in 2012.

The Accessible Customer Service Standard requires that all businesses and organizations in Ontario:
  • train staff about meeting the needs of customers with a variety of disabilities
  • communicate with a person in a manner that takes into account their disability
  • permit customers to bring their service animals, such as guide dogs, onto their premises.

“Accessible customer service is about learning how to communicate with someone who has a disability and, most importantly, it is about being willing to help,” says Community and Social Services Minister Madeleine Meilleur.

The Accessible Customer Service Standard is part of the province’s plan to make Ontario accessible by 2025. More accessibility standards will soon be finalized to tackle barriers in other key areas of every day life.
